Armodacare 150 mg is a wakefulness medication that consists of Armodafinil which is an enantiomer (pair of molecules that have the same chemical formula and atomic connectivity but are super-imposable mirror images of  each other) of Modafinil. It is used to treat excessive sleep disorders associated with Narcolepsy, Obstructive Sleep apnoea and Shift Worker Sleep Disorder.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Armodafinil inhibits the dopamine transporter (DAT), blocking dopamine reuptake and increasing extracellular dopamine levels in the brain. Unlike classic stimulants (e.g., amphetamines), it does not trigger significant dopamine release-it primarily blocks reuptake, which is thought to explain its comparatively milder abuse/euphoria profile. It increases histamine release in the hypothalamus, contributing to wakefulness. It also increases extracellular glutamate and decreases GABA (an inhibitory neurotransmitter) in certain brain regions, shifting the balance toward excitation/arousal. There is activation of  orexin/hypocretin neurons in the hypothalamus which is another system critical for maintaining wakefulness.

DOSAGE 

Dosage varies from individual to individual and thus consulting a physician prior is recommended. The general dosing for most of the patients is taken in the morning but for Shift worker Sleep disorders, it should be taken an hour before the shift starts. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is late in the day or close enough to the second dose, skip the dose. Do not double the dose as it can cause severe sleep disturbances.

Armodafinil might also interact with the following: Diazepam; Phenytoin; Barbiturates like phenobarbital; Cyclosporine; Antifungal medications such as Itraconazole, Ketoconazole; Carbamazepine; Anticoagulants like warfarin; Beta blockers like propranolol. 

It can also have an interaction with dietary compounds like grapefruit or grapefruit juice, alcohol and caffeine.
